Yasu: With regards to acting, does Ryo treat Okura like his competitor?
Ryo: Not at all. But yes, towards Uchi back then. When NEWS began I told myself,”No matter what, I must be better than that guy.”
Okura: Uchi’s presence was Ryo’s driving power to work.
Yasu: Back then, Uchi was closest to Ryo amongst the members. How did you find out that something like that had happened to Uchi?
Ryo: At the filming site of “Ganbatte Ikimasshoi”, I heard it from the manager over the phone. Uchi and I, be it in NEWS or Kanjani8, and even filming a drama, we were always together. However before that, for some reason that I have forgotten, I quarreled with Uchi and barely spoke to him. Then, something like that happened. Therefore when I found out, I didn’t know if I was angry or having other emotions, I couldn’t figure it out myself either.
Yasu: I can understand that Ryo had the most complex feelings amongst the members then.
Ryo: Some time later, didn’t Uchi come to our rehearsal and apologized? I was feeling,”What on earth were you doing while we were working so hard filming our first drama!”, of course I am worried about Uchi too, but with all the feelings combined together, I exploded. I punched him. That guy should feel regretful for what he had done, but he’s cool and is a good guy… All in all, I had mixed emotions, I felt extremely perplexed.
Yasu: But isn’t it tiring to stay angry? When Ryo punched Uchi, you actually felt very hurt right?
Okura: Back then, I shouted,”Stop it!” but he said,”You don’t know anything!”, and I thought,”I really didn’t know anything..”
Ryo: When I went to watch Uchi’s comeback stageplay “Playzone’07 Change 2 Chance”, midway my tears couldn’t stop flowing, I didn’t watch the stageplay properly. Like,”Yes, do work hard.” In conclusion because of that incident, it became like,”Let’s work hard as 7”. Thus I feel, if something like that didn’t happen, there won’t be the current Kanjani8.
Yasu: Indeed.
Ryo: To be honest, after Uchi’s incident, somehow things seemed grey and delicate? During interviews I didn’t mention Uchi, and I wasn’t asked about it either. But, I know one day I would need to speak up. This is definitely the first, and the last time I am talking about this, it’s great to be able to say all these out. Thus, I have always wanted to tell the eighters, “The 8th member of Kanjani8, is you.” And it is officially like this.

Just a little warning (though I guess you won't need it :D) The interviewas are all very honest and raw, so I guess some fans might be taken aback a bit by their honesty. (similar to Ueda's interview - the one you linked to a couple of weeks ago) - I personally appreciate such things <3 Though I'm a bit nervous about Yoko's interview - he is such a complicated guy ^^
